Issue: How to fix Session «Cloud Files Diagnostic Event Listener» failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022?

Hello. Every time I reboot my computer I receive the “”Cloud Files Diagnostic Event Listener” failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022″ message. What should I do?

Solved Answer

By using Kernel-EventTracing,[1] Windows users are able to see any errors that might have occurred. With kernel tracing, information is logged about different kernel events so as to optimize performance and get rid of any bottlenecks. This is all done at a system level so that people can monitor the activity and interactions of processes and threads.

Session “Cloud Files Diagnostic Event Listener” failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022 is a Kernel-EventTracing error. This message is caused in Windows by duplicated application files. Some people say that the error started appearing after OneDrive or Office 365 installations.

People report seeing the error message every time they reboot their computer which can get annoying. There are a couple of ways this issue can be taken care of. Some people report that they managed to get rid of the error by disabling “Files On-Demand” in OneDrive.

Other users were not so lucky and had to completely reinstall OneDrive. If these fixes we propose do not get rid of the problem, there is a built-in system restore tool. It can revert the Windows system to a previous point before any issues started appearing.

While checking the ‘Event Viewer’ after facing trouble to use OneDrive, you have got the message that Session “Cloud Files Diagnostic Event Listener” failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022′

So, what can you do now?

Cloud Files Diagnostic Event Listener

In the entire article, I will describe the fixes in detail to recover you from the appeared error. Let’s explore.

What to Do With ‘Cloud Files Diagnostic Event Listener’ Error Message

The error is not a risk factor at all. In fact, there are only a few things you may apply to fix the discussed error. These are-

  • Fix 1: Use System File Checker (SFC)
  • Fix 2: Reinstall OneDrive

Fix 1: Use System File Checker (SFC)

Let’s try a first-hand fix as an initial action. It is supposed to use SFC (System File Checker) to recover the cloud files. I will describe the process step by step below.

Step 1

Press the Windows key and type ‘cmd’. Accordingly, you will see the ‘Command Prompt‘ preface on the top of the appeared interface. From here, you have to select the ‘Run as administrator’ option.

Step 2

Next, you have to allow ‘User Account Control’. To do so, click on ‘Yes’.

Step 3

As a result, the ‘Command Prompt’ window will become evident. You have to copy the below text and paste it into the window.

‘SFC /scannow’

After that, hit the ‘enter’ key. Then the process will start. It may take several times to complete. Finally, check the OneDrive. It will be fine if it works. But if not, you need to follow the next fix.

Fix 2: Reinstall OneDrive

The very possible fix for the discussed error is to reinstall OneDrive. You have to work with the ‘Administrator: Command Prompt’ window again to apply the fix. The process has two parts. Firstly, you have to uninstall it. Then install it again to complete the procedure. I will give the in detail steps below.

Step 1

Tap the Windows key and type ‘cmd’. Then select the ‘Run as administrator’ option. Accordingly, you will get the window on the screen.

Step 2

Here you have to copy the below command and paste it into the window to terminate all OneDrive processes.

‘taskkill /f /im OneDrive.exe’

Hit the ‘enter’ button then.

Step 3

After that, you have to copy the below command text and paste it into the appeared window.

‘%systemroot%SysWOW64OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall’

Then press the ‘enter’ button. Consequently, OneDrive will uninstall from the system.

Step 4

Next, you have to install OneDrive again. To do so, open the ‘Administrator: Command Prompt’ window. Then copy the below command text and paste it into the window.

‘%systemroot%SysWOW64OneDriveSetup.exe’

Then hit the ‘enter’ button. OneDrive will install within a couple of moments. You just need to follow the on-screen direction to complete the process successfully. In the end, you have to restart the PC.

Final Words

Hopefully, the OneDrive will work smoothly, and cloud files diagnostic event listener will no more exist. Additionally, I would like to remind you that you can reinstall the OneDrive by using Command Prompt only.

Ezoic

We normally use Windows with paying little attention to any errors or warnings that come from the system. The periodic monitoring of system logs is good for gauging system health. The Windows Event Viewer tool shows log of error, warnings and general information thrown by the system. The event viewer can be started by following command (I use Windows10).

Windows+R (Run) > eventvwr.exe

Noticed the error appearing quite often.:

OneDriveError.png

Session “CldFltLog” failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022

A short online search showed that this is a quite ubiquitous error. The remedies provided by professional help staff were heart aching, for example one guy suggests to reinstall the windows. However the real problem – as noted by several users – is the starting of Microsoft cloud “OneDrive” app. The error was regenerated by closing and reopening the app. So it seems not to be major issue.

Quote from a user in the below given link observes:

I simply disabled OneDrive in the Startup tab of Task Manager and restarted.  No more kernel event error.  While the event viewer was still open, I double-clicked on the OneDrive.exe file in UsersUsernameAppDataLocalMicrosoftOneDrive to start it manually.  Immediately, the ‘Session “Cloud Files Diagnostic Event Listener” failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022’ showed up again.  I will assume it’s a benign error, so I’ll leave it be, but I do hope that Microsoft will look into it and stop advising customers to do clean boots, safe-mode boots, create new user profiless and re-install Windows.  You have obviously pinpointed the source of the error (Thank You), so the rest is up to them to fix.  It’s sad to say, but based on all the various COM and other event viewer errors that continue to appear throughout all the Windows builds, I don’t think MS will consider this to be a priority. 🙂

  • For anyone looking for answers, I solved the problem by underclocking
    CPU and GPU.

The laptop reaches its full temp in no time and stays there which makes some issues with thermal throttling and eventually crashes the motherboard.

I used MSI Afterburn for underclocking GPU, and Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility for underclocking CPU.

  1. Win 10: Session «Cloud Files Diagnostic Event Listener» failed to start with the following…

I used to get a slew of these errors, but I have gone through procedures listed in these pages to alleviate the situation, but one instance stubbornly remains.

I think the problem is rooted in my overlaying OneDrive installs. I am new to win 10. I installed Office 365 and OneDrive. I then had the above crit errors cascade.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled OneDrive according to procedures found on the net. My multiple layers of install might not have been removed by the procedures.

So, one something is still not right and I was wondering if having the Start Menu app installed on top of the default OS install and whatever Office 365 did created a duplication of effort that is creating this issue. Advice on how to clean this up is appreciated.

    :)
