Steamupdateui an x error occurred

I installed steam by `apt-get install steam`. Following that, I ran `steam` from command line. It downloaded and installed upgrades, and unpacked the steam runtime env. However, after that, it hung with

SteamUpdateUI: An X Error occurred
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)

I ^C:d it and restarted, and it got stuck in the same place.

Steam has previously worked under 14.06. The problem persists even if .steam and .local/share/Steam are nuked

Same problem here with the Radeon driver on Ubuntu MATE x64 16.04.1 LTS, with the same fix. Here’s the solution in case the link ever breaks:

cd $HOME/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
mv libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.bak
cd $HOME/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
mv libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++.so.6.bak

NB this fix will break again when steam updates itself.

Now you have steam running I recommend you enable the steam beta client (done steam settings) as this has a permanent fix for these problems.

Hopefully this gets pushed out to the stable client asap.

Steamupdateui an x error occurred

Help please, I am unable to open steam application with command:

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia steam

I use Nvidia Prime render offload to run my apps with GPU. Only steam is affected,steam app launches by using the standard command (not forcing the prime render offload), however the Games won’t launch with Prime render offload any longer. Have the feeling that flatpak’s nvidia dependency which have been installed automatically when installing any flatpak app may have caused some garbage with linking some runtime libraries, as before the games and steam were running fine with prime render offload.

Hello,
Since last update (Mar 13 2017), Steam doesn’t launch. In the terminal, there is what I found:

Hello @tameiki, I was just discussing a near identical scenario with someone on irc. Can you run apt install mesa-utils:i386 and use glxinfo and glxgears to confirm your 32 bit opengl driver is sane?

mesa-utils was already installed, here the reply of both command:

Steamupdateui an x error occurred

Playing yesterday ok.
This morning I’m getting the below.
no recent update to ubuntu so ran an update: same
tried steam -clearbeta: same

howto rollback beta or remove? (actually thought I wasnt on beta any more)

P.s I have a dedicated windows gaming machine (which is how i’m doing this 🙂
But my MAIN machine is a LINUX general purpose where I ALSO play a lot of games (including windows game,kudo to steam & proton for that 🙂

This is a generic error message, the real X error can be intercepted in theses files

Also have this issue. I solved it in my Arch by installing this packages:
nvidia-390xx-utils
opencl-nvidia-390xx
lib32-nvidia-390xx-utils
lib32-opencl-nvidia-390xx

You can check work it or not by command:
$ glxinfo32

I had the same error on fedora 36. I’m using the official nvidia driver for a Geforce RTX 2060. The problem in my case was that I forgot to install the 32-bit driver. You can do that with:

having trouble getting steam to start. the problem am having is that I would launch steam the progress bar window will would come on and then crash.
