How to Fix Error Files Missing from Job Error in uTorrent?

uTorrent is among the top torrent downloading applications. However, there have been many reports that users face an error message popping up “Files missing from Job Error“, even when torrents are still downloading. The most common reason for this error is either misplacing or re-naming the file that was being downloaded. This issue mostly occurs due to a mistake on the part of the user.

uTorrent

uTorrent automatically creates a local file on your computer after you initiate the download process. Even though the file is still not functional, it is still created and completed as the client downloads the remaining fragments. This error message points out that it cannot find the file anymore to add to.

Put Misplaced Files Back in Original Folder

The files can get accidentally misplaced by you during some other task on your computer. uTorrent doesn’t have the file mapped in its application and requires you to make sure the directory of the file is not changed in the download process. uTorrent also does not recognize the file as it is not in the saved folder.

To solve the problem, simply use the File Explorer search or Windows search to search for the file. Once you find the file, you can put it back in the original folder (you can also manually revert the directory of the file if you know where you have moved it).

To find the original folder, follow the following steps:

  1. Right-click on the file name in uTorrent.
  2. Scroll down to Advanced->Set Download Location. Set Download Location
  3. It should open the folder where the file was originally saved. Save Location
  4. This should resume any paused downloads and resume any stopped seeding after you click the resume button on the client.

Re-install the Application

There are instances where either the downloaded files or uTorrent’s program files are corrupt. This can cause even the completed download to not be recognized properly and cause the current error message. The simple solution is to re-install the software and not save any preferences this time. First, make sure that you uninstall the currently installed program:

  1. Press Windows + R, type “appwiz.cpl” in the dialogue box, and press Enter.
  2. From the program listings, search for uTorrent, right-click on it and select Uninstall.
  3. Restart your computer and now navigate to the official website of uTorrent. Download a fresh copy and install it.
  4. Now check if the issue is resolved for good.

Set New Download Location

If you have intentionally moved the file to a new place, then you can set the default download location to the new location in the preferences of that file. The remaining download will be commenced in this new download location and the error message will disappear.

  1. Right-click on the file name in uTorrent.
  2. Click on Advanced->Set Download Location. Set Download Location
  3. Browse to the new folder you have saved the file in. New Location
  4. Then click Select Folder and save changes. Restart uTorrent and check if the issue is resolved for good.

Force Re-Check

The issue can oftentimes occur, due to a break in internet connection or some internal bug in the software because of which uTorrent is unable to locate the file. The solution, in this case, is to force re-check the file. A force re-check will make uTorrent to take a look at the directory again and see if the file is present.

  1. Make sure the torrent is paused.
  2. Right-Click on the file name.
  3. Then click on Force Re-Check. Force Re-Check
  4. This should make the torrent realize, that the file has been downloaded, or, is still downloading and should resume.

Rename the File or Folder

You may have accidentally or intentionally changed the name of the file or folder. This causes uTorrent to think that the file has been removed from the location. If this is the case, you can copy/paste the original name to the file and hence solve the problem.

  1. Open uTorrent and while Ignoring the file extensions, copy the name of the file that was being downloaded.
  2. Go to where your file or folder is and select Right-click -> Rename.
  3. Paste the copied name and save changes.
  4. Restart uTorrent and see if the problem is solved.

How to Fix Error Files Missing from Job Error in uTorrent

Stuck with an “Error Files Missing from Job” message on a file you are downloading using uTorrent?

uTorrent is an excellent platform for downloading torrent files on your computer. However, there have been recent reports from several users that they are encountering an “Error Files Missing from Job” message while downloading files.

The truth is, this error occurs because uTorrent creates a folder that contains the files that you want to download on your computer, even if it is not yet finished. However, when these files are not yet ready for use, some users tend to delete these files since it is not usable or transfer it to another location, which triggers the “Error Files Missing from Job” message.

Today, we will show you a few steps that you can follow on how to fix this kind of problem when downloading files on uTorrent.

1. Put Files Back in Original Folder.

The first thing that you can do to try and fix the “Error Files Missing from Job” message on uTorrent is to put back the file to its original folder if you transferred it to another location.

It is possible that uTorrent is still looking for the file on the default download folder, which would not be there since you have already moved it.

Check out the steps below to guide you through the process.

  1. On your computer, go to the Desktop and launch uTorrent .
  2. After that, right-click on the file that you are downloading.
  3. Now, click on Advanced and select Set Download Location . This will open the default download location of uTorrent on your hard drive. Take note of the location as you will need it for the next steps.

  1. Lastly, open Windows File Explorer on your computer, then find the file that you are downloading and move it to the default download location of uTorrent.

After moving the files back into the original download location, reopen uTorrent and try downloading the file to see if the error message is already fixed.

However, if the steps above did not resolve the issue, you can try setting a new download location for uTorrent.

2. Set a New Default Download Location.

If moving back the file to the default download location did not work, you can try setting the default download location of uTorrent to the folder where you have moved the file that you are downloading.

To do this, you can follow the steps below.

  1. First, launch the uTorrent client on your computer.
  2. After that, right-click on the file that you are downloading.
  3. Now, click on Advanced and select Set Download Location .

  1. Lastly, go to the folder where you have transferred the file you are downloading and select it as the default download location.

Next, restart the uTorrent client and try starting the download of the file to see if the error message would still occur.

3. Force Re-Check the File.

If you did not move the download file to another location and you are getting the “Error Files Missing from Job” message on the uTorrent client, you can try to ‘Force Re-Check .’

Force Re-Check is a handy little option inside the uTorrent client that would scan the file that you are downloading to check what files are still missing and automatically download it for you.

To perform this, you can follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the Desktop of your computer, then click on uTorrent to launch it.
  2. After that, find the file that you are downloading and right-click it.
  3. Lastly, click on Force Re-Check to begin the process.

Now, try starting the download of the file to see if the “Error File Missing from Job” would still occur after checking the content of the file that you are downloading.

On the other hand, if you are still having problems, you can proceed to the next method below.

4. Reinstall uTorrent on Your Computer.

If your uTorrent client is acting weird and not functioning properly, it is possible that some of its installation files got corrupted during use.

It is also possible that you might have changed some of its settings, which causes your download to fail. In this case, it is best that you just reinstall the software on your computer since the installation file is not that big.

To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. On your computer, press on Windows Key + S and search for Control Panel .
  2. After that, click on Open to launch it.

  1. Now, click on Uninstall a Program .

  1. Lastly, find the uTorrent client from the list of programs installed on your computer. Then, right-click on it and click on Uninstall .

Now, go to uTorrent’s website to download and install the client again on your computer. After that, try downloading the file again on your computer to see if the issue would still occur.

5. Rename the File.

The last thing that you can do if uTorrent is having problems downloading a file is to rename the folder of the file you are downloading.

It is possible that the download folder of the file has a different name to the torrent file that you are downloading. This can cause some confusion for the client as it tries to find a folder that has the same name as the torrent file that you are downloading.

To rename the download folder of the file, check out the step-by-step guide below.

  1. On your computer, go to the Desktop and open the uTorrent client.
  2. After that, copy the file name of the torrent that you are downloading.
  3. Now, go to Windows File Explorer and navigate to the location of the download folder.
  4. Lastly, right-click on it and select Rename . Now, paste the file name of the torrent to the download folder.

Next, go back to the uTorrent client and initiate another Force Re-Check , which was discussed in Method 3 . After doing a force re-check, try to start downloading the file once again to see if the “Error File Missing from Job” is already fixed.

This wraps up our guide on how to fix this kind of issue with the uTorrent client. If you have other ideas that may help others in fixing the “Error File Missing from Job” error on uTorrent, kindly share it in the comment section below.

uTorrent is among the top torrent downloading applications.
