    I need to authorize gpsvc for administrators. Having logged on as «Administrator» account on win2008R2 it’s still prompting for the following message:

    «unable to save permission changes on gpsvc. Access is denied.»

    Please suggest how to save changes to gpsvc, have tried the advanced option also… any change made to permissions end up to above message.

    Are you looking for the steps to disable Group Policy Client service ?

    If so, here is the way

    • Start>Run>REGEDIT
    • Browse to the «HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicesgpsvc» subkey in the registry.
    • Right-click on the «gpsrv» subkey and click on «Permissions.» Open the «Advanced» tab, click on «Owner,» select your user account from the list and then click on the «OK» button. Click on the «Administrators» group, click «Full Control» and then click «OK.»
    • Double-click on the «Start» key in the right-hand pane and change its value to «4.» Close the Registry Editor and reboot the computer. Upon rebooting, the Group Policy Client service is disabled.

  • Hi, any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I’m facing an error when modifying system registry using Administrator account in Windows 7 Ultimate x86 version.

    Reason: I want to remove all USB device information in system registry, therefore I uninstalled all USB Root HUBs in Device Manager, then I ran regedit and tried to delete all keys under HKEY_Local_MachineSystemCurrentControlSetEnumUSB,
    under this key lists all USB devices ever connected to this PC, begins with VID_****&PID_****. This method works under Windows  XP.

    Current situation: Now, when trying this method under Windows 7, it won’t work any more. When deleting a key, it pops up an error: Cannot delete VID_****&PID_****: Error while deleting key («*» refers to the hex. numbers). I understand
    that this might be an account privilige issue, then I right clicked the key and hit Permissions, however, I’m unable to give full control right to Everyone, or add Administrator into the permission group. It will always pop up an error saying unable to save
    permission changes, access denied.

    I searched and found a post suggesting download and install SubInACL and run a batch file afterwards, I ran the batch file under elevated command prompt, which turned out a failure.

    The Windows copy is a new installation, only drivers and SubInACL installed, I just connected several USB devices before trying to remove registry information, as a test.

    Anyone with any ideas? Thanks

  • No, disconnect USB device did not help. Finally got the problem solved by using psexec.exe to get system priviliges, then I was able to delete these keys. The command is: psexec.exe -i -d -s regedit.exe

One way to avoid such error is to switch to root user using su – command. However this solution is not recommended since it will gain unnecessary access to all the root file system.

How to resolve Permission denied Error

Let’s say you have created a shell script for performing any task. but when you try to execute the script you may end with below error due absence of permission denied error.

Now to avoid such case you need to add execute permission “x” to the file myshell.sh using chmod command as below:

In this type of permission denied error you try to list or write the file in which you do not have sufficient permission to do so as below:

As per the permission given in above output only owner of the directory who is root can have all permission that is read, write and execute. So in such case you need to change the permission of the directory to read using below chmod command:

Now this time when normal user manmohan try to list directory he will not get the permission denied error.

In case you want to have write permission on this directory you need to specify w flag as well in chmod command as below:

Same is applicable to file level permission as well.

One more way is to changing the ownership of the directory using chown command. Since in our example we are getting error for user manmohan we will change ownership of the directory “myfolder” using below command.

Resolving permission denied Linux error for specific user

In above method of changing the permission using chmod is not suitable as per my opinion. Because when you give permission to others, it will be open for all the users within the system. Which is wrong in terms of security perspective. To resolve this error specific to user you can implement it using access control list or ACL. I am getting Unable to save file: Permission denied in atom when saving running ubuntu

I just installed Atom, and I am getting an error thrown up when I go to save the project.

«username» being what gets spit out when you enter

This isn’t an atom problem, it’s a linux permissions problem.

You opened a file owned by another user (a file probably owned by root ). If you want to edit that file, you have to either be root or change the permissions on the file to grant other users access.

Usually the best solution is to temporarily become root and edit the file:

This is because of linux permissions. The best way to solve this problem is by providing permission for the user. This can be done by chown command.

You can find your username using whoami command and your group name by using groups username command.

Let’s say you got «john» as your username. To get groupname you run the command

You will get an output something like this

The first name after : is your primary group. In the example it is «john»

This is happening because linux don’t have permissions. The best way to solve this problem you have to provide permission for the user to access particular directory/folder or file.

Please follow the below steps to give permission.

First find your username by entering the following command in console.

You will get an output something like this

You got «jrathor» as your username.

Now provide permission to that particular folder/directory or file which one you are not able to access.

Now you can edit all the files which is available in directory.

It Will work for ubuntu as well as for MAC also.

chmod 777 index.php

open new terminal and run your file with texteditor

there is alot of ways to solve this problem, i just change the permisions on the proyect folder:
sudo chmod 777 /path/to/folder/proyect

It might be late to answer this, but I tried this and resolved my issue:

for some reason npm created the react app with Read & Write permissions to System for only the app folder, although all files and folders contained had read/ write permissions to me, the creating user.

You’ll need the admin password. Visit the app folder in Finder, like, «directory/ReactApps/react-app/. «, right-click and click the dropdown menu for «Permissions», click the padlock icon in the bottom right of that pane and enter the admin password, create a new user by clicking «+» icon, select yourself, and Read/Write permission, click the (unlocked) padlock icon again. Copy your current code in Atom, quit Atom (cmd+q), restart, select the file, select all (cmd+a), paste, then save (cmd+s).
