Hello. I am having a bit problem while running games in game maker 8. It only occurs sometimes. Mostly for my good games. When i click run after loading it would say an unexpected error occured. What is the problem?. The os is win xp 32 bit in game maker 8.

most of my games are of small size . but dont know after a size of 10 mb it will show it. (comedy was good)

‘unexpected errors’ are problems with the OS. Make sure you have enough system resources to run the games. AFAIK exporting executables and running those uses less resources than test playing with GM open, so that’s also worth a shot.

I tried an executable but nothing worked. In the game I only added some more scripts then it is showing it. I am using GM 8.0 and OS is Windows XP . I will post a screen shot

As Yal said, » unexpected errors » are usually due to hardware or operating system limitations. Most common reason for that error message is the machine not having enough free memory to run the game. That happens mostly when you’re using large graphics and sound files. Does you project have any backgrounds or sprites that you think are quite large? Try removing them temporarily and run the game to see if it works. It it does, you should remove them permanently, bundle them with the game and load them externally at runtime. You should also try unticking the Preload checkbox for your audio files.

Game Maker 8 is not supported anymore by YYG, and Windows XP is not supported anymore by Mirosoft. That should answer all your questions.

this would’ve helped me 5 minutes ago, so i’ll post it, since the last response annoyed me.
i had to convert my gm81 file to a gmk file (gm8) via converter
after i run the gmk file —> unexpected error occured.

the conversion screwed up the fonts.
the character range was way too high.
after you set it to normal, it worked like a charm

hope this helps somebody out there, who also struggles with this stupid version problem.
