Because of these factors you’ve been left a little SOCIALLY HINDERED. Your MATESPRIT has spent a lot of time teaching you the ropes but you aren’t able to grasp at a lot of the “lingo” your clique tosses around “on the reg”. You desperately make the attempt regardless though. You’ve spent a majority of your free time READING throughout your life as an aid to try and see what you’ve missed, giving you a profound knowledge of PLANETARY HISTORY and making you a bit of a buff in the process. You also like to give POETRY a try when you can but it tends to wax a little too far on the complex side for your tastes. You were never good at riddles and figures of speech.

She is the Page of Heart. Her trolltag is «sanguineAllegory», her sign is based upon the alchemical symbol for Silver.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: The story hints at a troubling time in Sova’s life. One which she is apparently reminded of by a Phantom Of The Opera poster she has in her room. Said past has also apparently made her unwilling to sing at the present time.

These mini-rebellions are grounds of territorial abuse to your custodian, and as such you have MANY SCRAPES WITH HIM, quite literally in fact. These poisoned marks would normally kill on principle, but your body has a PSEUDO-HEALING FACTOR that mends your wounds albeit leaving them SCARRED AND DISFIGURED. You are EXTREMELY SENSITIVE about this, and as such make sure to COVER THEM UP as much as possible.

  • Abusive Parents: If Dismas doesn’t mine for the potent irradiated ores his lusus needs to survive after its emergence from the planets core, he would be as good as dead. Even then, the constant strifing has resulted in multiple scars.
  • Every Scar Has a Story: Dismas has had a few scrapes with his custodian leaving him disfigured. Being self-conscious, he covers them up with a bandana.
  • Leitmotif: Radioactive Ore.
  • Scars are Forever: At the cost of his wounds being healed.
  • Un-person: Following his kidnap by the Skulltitan, the school declared him legally dead and he was mentioned to have never been officially seen again by Glomer in Volume 9 of Snowbound Blood.

In the past you liked READING STORIES OF MASKED VIGILANTES and WATCHING COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF 2D FICTION. This used to lead to some SCRIBBLING, but you really AREN’T ALL THAT INTERESTED IN DOING THOSE THINGS ANYMORE FOR UNSPECIFIED REASONS. You also enjoy drinking MOUNTAIN DEW: CODE RED quite frequently. You are the TWELFTH and FINAL in a long line of EXTRATERRESTRIAL PROPHETS, the true name of these multiuniversal deities only given the vague term of STAR CHILDREN. Your overall purpose in life is to teach others about COMING TOGETHER. Not only with others but also with themselves in order to build up thoughts of OVERALL OPTIMISM AND EXUBERANCE rather than the constant feelings of fear and self-doubt that dwells inside every living creature.

  • Familial Body Snatcher: Becomes possessed by her ancestor.
  • Parody Sue: Has been described as her character trope, but is as harshly subverted as all others. If not the most harshly.
  • The Pollyanna: At least at first she seems calm and optimistic to a scary fault, due to the nature of previous Star Children and her own ideal values of her personality.

  • Canine Companion: Laivan’s lusus, Mutt, can be seen as such.
  • Gone Horribly Right: In a hunting accident, he left a troll permanently disfigured, but said troll (Serpaz) became the love of his life.
  • Handicapped Badass: Despite being born with a severe lung condition, he still manages to get by in life. (Even if he has gotten into horrible accidents involving his rifle).
  • Leitmotif: Woof.
  • Reckless Gun Usage: Was hinted that he’s gotten into horrible accidents because of his gun.
  • Taxidermy Is Creepy: Laivan’s hobby when he brings home game after a hunt. Probably not as creepy, seeing as this is on Repiton it’s moreso a funny thing, given the fact that he tries to sell his creations online.

Tazsia ‘Taz’ Poemme

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tazsprite_by_sparaze_db814os.png

Your religious allegiances lie within that of the MIRTHAMANIACS. A specific breed of JESTER-ESQUE PERSONAS, that wishes to promote THE IDEOLOGY OF RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT against LETHAL FALLACIES OF CORRUPTION RUNNING WILD IN THE SYSTEM. This is a fancy way of promoting the perverse nature of CHOREOGRAPHED INFIGHTING GRUDGE MATCHES to decide who TRULY DESERVES A SPOT AT THE TOP OF THE LADDER with the RAWED BROTHERS. As well as keeping the personal intents of GRIEVANCE SLAUGHTERING away from the public. Everybody’s got a price.

A cantankerous troll who goes by the nickname of ‘Taz’, and is religiously affiliated with a cult of corrupt wrestler personas called the «Mirthamaniacs».

She is the Sylph of Rage. Her trolltag is perniciousOverkill, her sign is based on the alchemical symbol for Platinum.

She has allocated her STRIFE SPECIBUS with the MACEKIND ABSTRATUS. She was the second troll introduced.

~She begins and ends her sen+ences wi+h a +ilde and replaces +'s wi+h plus signs~
~She also CAPI+ALIZES words some+imes for emphasis~

  • Ax-Crazy: Has murdered at least one other Mirthamaniac and supposedly many others along with various lowbloods.
  • Boobs of Steel: Often not noticeable, due to the Limited Artstyle nature of the Homestuck artstyle, but as seen during the few times Taz is seen from specific angles in the more detailed Hero Mode art shots, she has a much more noticeable bust than most of the other female cast, and Murrit outright calls her «big breasted», and he constantly mentions and nicknames her breasts when speaking to her. And, as typical of a Purple-Blood, she is also one of the most physically imposing of the cast, one of the most physically strong of the cast, prefers using the heavy and brutal Macekind Specibus, and is always quick to choose physical, often violent solutions to problems.
  • Juggalo: A parody of a parody of juggalos.
  • Leitmotif: Razzmatazz.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: What the Mirthamaniac’s supposedly revolve their practices around, only hiding it in a show like format to distract others from the fact that they kill lowbloods as population control.
  • Wall of Weapons: Has a lot of various torture weapons in her respiteblock and her hive, including a novelty hand clapper.

    Murrit Turkin

Murrit Turkin

In the past you were a SALESMAN. But after your DREAMSELF was awoken on the moon of DERSE by making a DEAL WITH A STRANGER, a small group of CHEATS known as the DEAD SHUFFLERS took you in as a HOSTAGE to the BLACK QUEEN. It was soon that their leader, the SCATHING SHARPER, took a shine to you. Learning from your newfound home, you were soon turned into a FEARED PERSONALITY AMONGST THE LAST REMAINING MEMBERS OF THE SEA TROLL HIERARCHY. As a RUTHLESS SWINDLER and CARD SHARK in the world of many various GAMBLING SPORTS, you acquired a fine taste for TAKING WHAT YOU WANT regardless if you earned it or not, and MURDERING any poor sucker who didn’t pony up the goods. You actually ended up meeting your PARTNER, Dismas, through these means. You still technically OWN HIS SOUL from that virtual poker game about two or so sweeps back, not that it matters now. You soon realized that wasn’t the life you wanted to lead, and as such you GAVE IT ALL UP. Ending your reign and betraying the family you once had, sentencing one to a LIFE of COMMUNITY SERVICE and the other three INTO HIDING.

A sleazy, lecherous troll who is more complex than first glance would suggest.

He is the Thief of Time. His trolltag is unclaspedKahuna, his sign is based on the alchemical symbol for Lead.

He has allocated his STRIFE SPECIBUS with the 2xKNUCKLEKIND ABSTRATUS. He was the fifth troll introduced.

  • Anime Hair: His reverse pompadour.
  • Complexity Addiction: Nobody knows how or why Murrit works the way he does, most of the other trolls don’t even understand what he’s saying. And it seems he would rather keep it that way.
  • Cool Shades: His shutter shades, all fifty two pairs of them. Which coincidentally is the same number in a deck of cards and in year, (or in this case, half of a sweep) Murrit switches between all color variations of his shades within this timeframe.
  • Fetish: Hentai. Though nobody knows if he actually likes it at this point or if it’s still just a long running gag to make fun of another troll’s interest, including himself.
  • Filth: His «hentai dungeon», as well as nude drawings of all of his friends on body pillows.
  • Fish People: Subverted, as he refuses to act or acknowledge his place according to GS.
  • Leitmotif: Mammory Master.
  • The Gambler: In the past.
  • The Nicknamer: Has not once referred to another character by their real name and instead opts to use fitting nicknames about their personality or interests. Usually insulting.
  • Young Entrepreneur: His past self could be classified as this before joining the Dead Shufflers, which made him more of a ruthless Con Man.

    Calder Kerian

Calder Kerian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/calder_kerian.png

Your life is secured as not only a SEA DWELLER, but because you hold the highest SHADE of violet blood remaining on the hemospectrum, MAGENTA. A gift given to you by your ANCESTOR, a gift which leaves you as a societal pariah by association due to his unbridled jealousy… Your goal is to undo the mess he made and become a POWERFUL LEADER yourself, sending society into a new age with instated law and legislation. You make strides towards this goal by using your endangerment as leverage to publish SLANDEROUS PERIODICALS speaking on topical issues while harshly criticizing those who disagree with what you put out into the public. Even from his shadow, you are regarded as overly SELF-IMPORTANT. But that exact attitude has given you a LEGION of admirers amongst the scoffing crowd, ones that agree with your ideals and see the facts for what they truly are.

He is the Maid of Void. His trolltag is grandioseSaturation. His symbol is based upon the alchemical symbol for Iron.

He has allocated his STRIFE SPECIBUS with the GLAIVEKIND, HALBERDKIND, AND GOLFCLUBKIND ABSTRATI.

He does not use a typing quirk of any sort because he sees it as silly and useless.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Word of God declares that pretty much everyone on the planet would hate Calder on principal because of his ancestry.
  • Authority in Name Only: While typically a higher blood caste is indicative of a ruling status, and Calder has the highest blood available, he has nowhere near the power he’d like to. Not helped that Repiton is an apparent capitalist hellscape where the greater corporate powers are the only ones who have any real power.
  • Genocide Backfire: On the receiving end of his ancestor’s actions during his reign, during which almost every sea dweller in existence was wiped out.
  • He-Man Woman Hater: One of his most well known traits is that he has a very announced and unabashed lack of respect for the female gender. Often insulting the girls he knows both to others and even to their faces. Fittingly, his sign, the alchemic symbol for iron, is also most commonly associated with the ‘male’ symbol.
  • Last of His Kind: While not the last sea dweller, Calder is the last of the sea dwellers with a shade of magenta blood, the closest kind left to proper fuschia. Not that it gives him much right to rule, given how this attempted power grab ended up wiping out the future monarchy altogether.
  • Must Make Amends: One of Calder’s primary motivations for his current actions and interests. Whether out of guilt or a simple sense of duty, his biggest goal at present is to right the wrongs of his ancestor to fix the planet and reinstate a proper rule over the planet again, and fix all the ways that his ancestor damaged the planet.
  • Noodle Incident: There are apparently as of yet unknown events in the past which formed his present day opinions about things.
  • Parental Neglect: Word of god is that Calder’s lusus, a giant female anglerfish, really doesn’t care about her charge and leaves him to do whatever while she does her own thing. And Calder resents her for this. Though, considering his beliefs and the interactions between male and female anglerfish, that may not be the only reason for his resentment.
  • Redeeming Replacement: How he views himself. At present, his blood color and the Kerian name are viewed on Repiton as symbols of genocide and violence. His current goal is to work past this and regain control of the planet to set things back into proper order, fixing what was done by his legacy in the past.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Though Calder is a royal in name only, he’s actively working to repair the damage his ancestor did, and trying to fight the ruling powers which continue to ruin Repiton in pursuit of wealth. Though this is mostly seen as him running magazines hosting controversial topics using what limited authority his blood allows him.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Seems to feel this way about his ancestor’s reign on Repiton, during which 99.9% of all sea dwellers were killed out of apparent jealousy, and every single Fuschia blood was wiped out. Leaving his ancestor, and Calder himself, as the highest shade of blood left on Repiton (magenta).
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: With his irritating behavior and his outspoken beliefs about gender, it’s little wonder as to why he spends most of his time alone despite being able to contact them. Hinted to have not been the case in earlier times, but as of the present everyone else in the group has dropped him like an empty soda can.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: «Calder: Traverse corridor» hints at a past Calder who was decidedly much less of a pompous jerk. Showing photographs of him smiling with former kismesis Serpaz, former moirail Occeus, and hanging around with characters like Laivan, Murrit, and even Arcjec
  • We Used to Be Friends: Calder used to be friends with much of the rest of the group, being close enough to have pictures of Murrit, Laivan, and Arcjec in the hallway connected to his hive’s throne room. As well as having once been moirails with Occeus and kismesis with Serpaz. However, word of god declares that everyone else abandoned him and whatever relationships they had with him. Leaving him only tangentially related to the group and part of their game.
  • Wine Is Classy: Deliberately attempts to invoke this in order to seem more refined and sophisticated to others. Too bad he can’t stand the taste.

Ancestors

     The Annalist

The Annalist

Sova’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. A writer who created many scrolls which Sova herself owns in the present day. She suffered a life of hardships as numerous as they were intense.

     The Unknown/The Forgiven

The Unknown/The Forgiven

Arcjec’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. After committing suicide for unknown reasons by hanging, he was brought back to life by The Vivifier using the blood curse that came with her Lime blood.

  • Driven to Suicide: For unknown reasons, he hung himself from a tree and killed himself. Where he was found not long after by the Vivifier.

     The Vivifier

The Vivifier

Also knowns as Zekura Raines. Ellsee’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. Carried the same blood curse that Ellsee does, which she shared with The Forgiven after he killed himself. Was once in a pale relationship with The Exemplar, who broke it off when she learned that The Vivifier had shared her blood curse with someone else when she had promised it to her.

     The Exemplar

The Exemplar

Also known as Cyprim Shukra. Albion’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. The Twelfth and final Star Child of her bloodline, relinquished her title as The Pure Oneself in order to bind herself to Repiton. Formerly in a moirallegiance with The Vivifier, she felt betrayed when she learned that the latter passed on her blood curse to The Forgiven instead to revive his dead body. Matesprits with Dismas’s ancestor, he died, and not long after she was murdered by her followers for unknown reasons. It is through her comunications that Albion learns the truth behind The Game, and receives a final warning to keep Ellsee away form it, and to not trust White Noise.

     The Jagerman

The Jagerman

Laivan’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. An accomplished hunter whose skills provided his companions with many a meal when they were on the run.

  • Pelts of the Barbarian: Wears a fur of unknown origin around his neck as part of his normal clothing, presumably having hunted it himself.

     Acerigger Switchem

Acerigger Switchem

Murrit’s ancestor who lived during the Renaissance. A serial bonder who chemically bonded with multiple trolls, including Caesar Consceleratus Persolus, only to leave them to suffer the effects of withdrawals. Simply because he could and he enjoyed seeing them suffer.

  • Villainous Legacy: Because of his tendency to bond with and then leave Trolls, it set a bad precedent on Repiton for Trolls who wanted to have more than one bondmate in a single quadrant, or more than the allotted two. Even in present day, the social ramifications on relationships can still be felt across the board.

     Caesar Consceleratus Persolus

Caesar Consceleratus Persolus

Calder’s ancestor who lived and reigned over Repiton during the Renaissance. He ordered a mass genocide against all sea dwellers on the planet, eliminating every last Fuschia blood, leaving him and his eventual descendant as the highest shade of violet blood on Repiton, and eliminating 99.9% of the planet’s sea dweller population.

  • Genocide from the Inside: During his reign, accomplished the deaths of every member of the Fuschia caste, and reduced the total number of sea dwellers on the planet to a mere 50, having wiped out 99.99% of the sea dweller population.
  • Villainous Legacy: Because of his actions in causing the murder of most all the other sea dwellers, the present day planet’s environment is shot to hell and back and dangerously polluted. To the point all present know his line’s name and even blood color with absolute disdain.

Other Characters

    White Noise

White Noise

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whitenoisesprite_by_sparaze_db814pd.png

The enigmatic ETERNAL GUARDIAN of Repiton. He has played a significant role in the history of the planet and the events of Vast Error. Oh and he’s the narrator.

  • Berserk Button:
    • Being compared to his father Gaiaeon.

White Noise: DON’T YOU DARE COMPARE ME TO HIM.

    • Realizing that his omnipotence has been compromised. Like when learning from Murrit what Elisee did to make everyone weary of her.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: His bread and butter, as all of the narration is White Noise himself expositing to the audience.
  • Dem Bones: Just look at him.
  • Foil: To the other immortal troll guardian, Doc Scratch. Noise is a gracious host who greatly enjoys conversing with visitors whom he summons into his static realm. Unlike Doc Scratch, however, he is very personable and isn’t very smug, but is instead slightly overbearing and overly-talkative in conversation.
  • Medium Awareness: White Noise appears to have some amount of awareness of what’s going on. Appearing to be speaking to the audience about things that are happening in the comic and such.
  • Narrator All Along: He’s the narrator.
  • Pet the Dog: He managed to change quite a few elements of The Game, such as getting Derse to not be as violent as they were in previsions versions and having the Trolls’ planet teleported with them into the Medium rather than being abandoned and destroyed.

     Weird Al

Weird Al

Otherwise known as the «Weird Alchemist». A Troll version of Weird Al Yankovic. Heads a cult determined to make people happy. Whether they want to be or not.

  • Affably Evil: He the head of an insane happiness cult, but still cares deeply for his members, such as nuzzling Edolon’s hair when he sacrifices Serpaz’s lusus to unlock his powers.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: He looks just like the real-life Weird Al Yankovic, albeit with shadowy troll skin and horns.

     Edolon

Edolon

Member of the Weird Al cult who acts with as of yet unknown intents. Has some past association with Serpaz.

     Sestro

Sestro

The Corporate Heir. A purple blood who is set to one day take control of the planet-wide megaconglomerate known only as Corporate.

     Hamifi

Hamifi

The Advisor. A jade blood who is Advisor to Sestro.

     Rogi

Rogi

Occeus’s golem lab assistant that he created from parts of dead Trolls. A successful animation, though he lacks a soul and is not especially bright.

     The Dead Shufflers

A group of notorious white-collar Dersites kingpins. Lead by Jack Noir, also known as Scathing Sharper, their group consists of Defrauding Dealer, Hustle Bones and Charmed Defalcators. They ruled Derse with an iron fist until their newest member, the Dreamself of Murrit Turkin got bored of them and screwed them over. Only Scathing Sharper was punished, as DD, HB, CD sold him out and are now in witness protection, while SS became THE TRASH MAN.
They take center stage in Intermission 2 Side 1, where are invited to a transdimensional space called HOTEL CALIFORNIA with the express purpose of devaluing it and facing off against SS’s Arch Nemesis.

About time this thread was made, I love it a lot and even got one of the Repiton tapes they are (were?) selling on their etsy.
Found this on Youtube and that’s where it started for me, although I had heard about it before:

But yeah VE is good and there’s been so much love and work put into it it’s hard to believe that Arcjec started out as Austin’s self-insert brony OC

Re: The Vast Error Thread

Murrit saw Ellsee perform the VE equivalent of human transmutation (she tried to summon her and Arcjec’s ancestors’ souls) and it went haywire and of course Murrit saw all of this.

Murrit is angry at WN because Murrit really, really doesn’t want Ellsee to fuck everyone over and is fine with killing her to protect everyone else (given that it’s WDYDTT, his rationale isn’t too unreasonable) but WN doesn’t want that to happen because Ellsee is, as he tells Murrit, crucial to the whole mess.

Imagine I told you that you’d slip on a banana peel tomorrow. Wouldn’t you not leaving your bed invalidate my prediction?

Most «spoliers» are possible futures. Austin doesn’t favour the idea of an immutable outcome. Sure, Arcjec bites it in a vision in EoA1. but most prophecies are as reliable as a game of telephone.

This is absolutely going to sound biased as all get-out since I work on Snowbound Blood, but the amount of effort and passion and talent that goes into Vast Error and Snowbound Blood is absolutely phenomenal and it very much deserves the popularity it has.

I mean, no other project has even come close to making me seriously consider writing the phrase «hot dog bong water» to develop the actual lore of the world, so make of that what you will.

Oh, hey, I write this thing.

Honestly it feels very odd to be doing this whole forum romp again. Last time I REALLY did this was when the VE Beta started on the original MSPA Forums back in March 2011. There was a brief stint where I put Act 1 updates on Omegaupdate but it didn’t really feel the same and I stopped right after EOA1.

I’ll probably be around every once in a blue moon to see how things are going. Even now, I still can’t resist seeing what people say about VE. No matter how good or bad it actually is. It’s the authorial dilemma of «do I want to see something and make myself potentially feel good» or «do I want some guy to tell me that I’m a hack and a shitty person and I don’t deserve any credit also I pissed in your Coke idiot» for a nice laugh. It basically becomes Schrodinger’s Thread Check, if you will. Especially as we trek further down the long and winding road of depressed capitalistic aliens with bad quirks. My job does not get easier.

Anyways; if you have any questions, comments, concerns, praise, jabs, money, barts, etc. I’ll be keeping an eye out.

Potentially even many eyes out.

Vast Error, Vast Error. What a collection of sentences and pixels strewn about chronologically. I actually heard it from one of my 2 friends at the time who were into Homestuck as I finished reading, in 2017. I got a handful of things to say about it, for sure, and I’d like to preface this by saying that I don’t exactly mean to say «wow this sucks dick, you people read this? lmao, lol, and dare I say it, rofl.», but rather point out some things I found worth talking about since I first heard of it. Only one post to really fit all these points would be way too boring to read, so I’ll be splitting this in 3 or so posts.

Let’s start with the art. Naturally, it’s a replication of Homestuck, and at the start, there’s not much to complain, just your good old run-of-the-mill Hivebent-venture, and I’m more than fine with that. My only problem with it would be that there’s the circle heads reminiscent of Homestuck, and I feel it would greatly benefit if it departed from those heads and ventured into its own thing, maybe a more realistic rendition (I heard noses are ALL the rage nowadays, y’all), as well as changing the designs for lusii and denizens alike. Nothing against them, but they do clash with other designs, even amongst themselves. Now, this is what I have to say up to page 468, which is where the art switches hands, from Heather to xamag, and this switch brings new pros as well as cons. The most remarkable change is the cleanliness that comes from the new artist, as well as the obvious implications of having someone who worked on Homestuck (and who’s quite respected, may I add) working on a fan project. However, this cleanliness also comes off as a softening of the style, a «regression», so to say, into Homestuck, instead of «jumping off from it», like the previous style had potential to do. Heck, the style as it stands looks straight out of Act 6 with extra steps, which isn’t a problem in and of itself, but I believe that a fanventure should attempt to diverge from its source material, or at the very least, maintain in parallel, not converge to it. Furthermore, with someone as experienced and as skilled as Xamag on team, there is a myriad of avenues that one may take art-wise to better reflect the themes of the story, merging Homestuck’s own style with something else (and as to what, your guess is as good as mine) to create something original, something that lacks in the comic as it currently stands. And, even within the comic itself we can find examples of style shifts!

Found this on Youtube and that’s where it started for me, although I had heard about it before:

Austin is mean to me so VE is bad or something?

But yeah VE is good and there’s been so much love and work put into it it’s hard to believe that Arcjec started out as Austin’s self-insert brony OC

Calder Kerian

Calder Kerian

Relatives

Physical description

Species

Gender

Calder is based off of the «Disrespected Royalty» fantroll archetype.

Despite appearing as such, his blood is not the fuchsia blood of the designated ruling class of trolls, but is a similar, but ultimately distinct Magenta color.

He was the ninth troll introduced and the third troll introduced in Act 2, however he made several appearances throughout Act 1. He was the eleventh troll to enter the game.

Contents

Etymology [ ]

The name Calder means «rocky waters» in Celtic. The name Kerian is another variant of the name Kyrian, coming from the Greek kyrie, meaning «Lord».

Biography [ ]

Six Sweeps [ ]

In his younger years, Calder was friends with Laivan and Arcjec and used to be involved in their light-hearted pretend games. Additionally he was in a kismessitude with Serpaz Helilo and in a moiraillegence with Occeus Coliad. All of these relationships have been abandoned or ended for reasons unknown. It is mentioned that Occeus left Calder, leaving him rather bitter about their time together.

Pre-game [ ]

Shortly after his introduction, Calder proceeded to the Grand Fairway to play golf when he’s suddenly messaged by his former moirail, demanding an explanation of his involvement in the Game, to which he replies that he had nothing to do with it and both of them are completely powerless in the situation. He abruptly ended the conversation with him and continued playing golf.

During the Game [ ]

Calder presumably enters in «[S] Ellsee: Enter.», however, he has not appeared in the game as of now.

Personality and Traits [ ]

Initially, Calder appears to be a very self-important troll with a superiority complex and a strongly-implied dislike of women. He is very aware of the social and environmental decline of Repiton, and is such very politically-minded, to the point of cynicism and humorlessness. He is particularly focused on proper conduct and presenting himself as a proper sea-dweller to establish superiority. He persistently projects these ideals onto Murrit, who had once been his picture of what a proper sea-dweller should be like.

Being the descendant of the troll that decimated the sea dweller population out of jealousy, Calder is considered a social pariah by association. He feels an immense obligation to do his part to undo the damage done by his ancestor’s atrocities and help reestablish order. As such, Calder obsessed with the continued existence of the sea-dwelling trolls, and in becoming a leading force on Repiton. He works to increase his influence by publishing the politically-charged and intentionally morally-provocative Sideline magazine, but he hasn’t been personally involved in its production in some time.

Calder has a long list of strained and bitterly-ended relationships, quadrant relationships or otherwise. Judging from the old portraits of these old friends and loved ones on the walls of his hive, and the bitterness he shows when reflecting on these past relationships, Calder is unable to move on any of it.

Judging by his previous interactions with Arcjec and Laivan, and his involvement in their games, Calder may have been less uptight in his youth.

Relationships [ ]

Murrit does not like Calder at all. Murrit makes a huge point of annoying or ignoring Calder whenever possible, even basing his persistent «love» of hentai to mock his male-centric ideals and hoity toity attitude. Calder is frustrated with Murrit’s refusal to behave like a proper sea dweller, and regularly tries to boss Murrit around. Calder at one point deeply respected Murrit, back when he acted more in line with the expectations of a sea-dweller, and Calder tries to make Murrit behave in his old manner, to no avail.

Occeus Coliad [ ]

It has been shown that Calder and Occeus have had a, now-ended, pale relationship with one another. Currently, their relationship is very tense and strained. Calder shows a lot of bitterness towards Occeus, and is visibly upset when Occeus tries to contact him. From Calder’s perspective, it appears that Occeus had at some point abruptly ended their moiraillegence. Calder still keeps old pictures of Occeus on the walls of his hive.

Serpaz Helilo [ ]

Calder and Serpaz were previously in a kismessitude. Prior to the end of their relationship, she used to push Calder to try new hobbies to get out of his own head. Calder still keeps pictures of Serpaz on the walls of his hive, as well as the model ship she had him make.

Arcjec Voorat [ ]

Calder and Arcjec were once friends in their youth, but that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.

Laivan Ferroo [ ]

Similarly, Calder was once friends with Laivan Ferroo.

Ellsee Raines [ ]

Calder is generally dismissive and disrespectful towards Ellsee, as he is with most of the female cast of Vast Error. He constantly talks down to her and treats her like an incompetent stooge, unwilling to let her prove otherwise. His dislike for Ellsee may be related to his similar dislike of her red lover, Occeus.

Ellsee simply sees him as a chauvinistic prick, but isn’t petty enough to leave him out of the loop when she has important, life-saving information.

In the Pre-Game, the two had reached into an agreement with Ellsee providing any means of information that can help them win the Game and in exchange, Calder will make sure that Ellsee is included and wanted in any situation the trolls are in.

Sestro Enthal & Secily Iopara [ ]

At the beginning of Snowbound Blood Volume 1, Calder is ranting to Sestro over the phone about late shipments, causing Sestro to signal Secily to shoot the window as an excuse to get off the phone.

In Occeus’s route, Secily quickly recognizes grandioseSaturation as Calder from his Skorpe conversations with Occeus.

Ellsee Raines, also known by her Skorpe handle, existereOracle, is one of the trolls and is one of the main characters in Vast Error. Her associated alchemic sigil is Mercury and her horns are long, thin and sharp. She is the most important character in Vast Error according to White Noise.

She, her ancestor, and her lusus are the only beings on Repiton to have ever had lime colored blood. Her blood has potent life-bearing properties and could be the secret towards gaining untethered immortality as expressed by Occeus. It could also potentially carry some sort of curse to those who have the blood in their system.

She was the seventh troll introduced and the first troll introduced in Act 2.

Biography

Six Sweeps

Not much is currently known about Ellsee before the story begins.

Pre-Game

Ellsee is first introduced at the start of Act 2, where she is sitting in her tent/hive. She receives a message from her matesprit Occeus, who she had messaged days ago and has only just responded. The two discuss the implications of Occeus’ possible breakthrough in his work, apologizing for neglecting Ellsee. He emphasizes the importance of his work to revitalize the planet, and Ellsee voices support, but is left feeling insecure. Out of a feeling of inadequacy and loneliness, she reaches out to Arcjec, asking him if she is likeable. Arcjec, despite insisting that he’s the last person anyone should seeking out for advice, offers some anyway. The conversation leads to Ellsee to find the resolve to finally meet Arcjec in person and introduce herself properly.

Ellsee hiding from Arcjec

After arriving at Arcjec’s hive, Ellsee tries to get his attention at his window by throwing a rock. The shock of seeing an unknown troll at his window leads Arcjec to fall out of his second floor window into the mud below and passing out.

Ellsee loses her nerve and has started to walk home, but quickly circles back around when she sees that a meteor is flying towards it. She finds his hive in shambles, but bizarrely mostly intact, with Arcjec nowhere to be found. She then learns of the game and the fact that Murrit had intended to exclude her from it. She returns to her hive and reaches out to Occeus again in a panic. Occeus tries to comfort a distressed Ellsee until he reads the memo himself.

Occeus is distressed at the absurdity, yet possible reality of the situation presented by The Game and the fact that it necessitates abandoning Repiton and making all his work to save it irrelevant. Having learned that he’s meant to work with Calder Kerian in the game, an outraged Occeus messages the sea dweller. As Occeus fumes, Ellsee is left in the dark. She messages Murrit for answers, but he coldly tells her that he knows that she cannot be trusted, and for everyone else’s sake, that she should get lost. Realizing that she won’t be getting any help for the time being, she tries to forget that conversation.

Shortly after, Ellsee message Arcjec and is relieved when she gets a response from him. The two discuss the events of the night, with Ellsee forced to admit that she knows more than she’s let on to Arcjec. As the conversation ends, Arcjec tells Ellsee that when things have calmed down, they should meet and just hang out, and that she should tell him what she’s been meaning to say.

Ellsee makes her own memo and pointed includes everyone, attempting her share her own knowledge of the game that she obtained through a cryptic old book she inherited from her ancestor. Sova chimes in with her own theories and mentions that she has encountered similarly cryptic scrolls that appear to pertain to the game as well. However, Murrit immediately leaves the memo after it is made, and Calder and Taz don’t take long to follow suit out of their own dislike of Ellsee. Additionally, the whole memo quickly goes off topic. Laivan later mentions to Murrit that Ellsee had told Laivan that she was quite personally hurt when Murrit left the memo.

During the game

Ellsee has yet to enter the game.

Personality

Ellsee is a rather eclectic troll with similarly eclectic interests. She is a practitioner of potion-crafting and various forms of magic. She is however a strong opponent of fortune telling and considers anyone who claims any knowledge of the future to be a charlatan, despite having possibly practised it herself in the past. She is also a dancer by trade.

As the only living troll on Repiton to have her blood color, she lives a nomadic life on the road, discretely avoiding the undue attention of anyone who would want to get their hands on her blood’s life-giving properties. This kind of life has led her to become a staunch survivalist.

The neglect she faces from Occeus’ workaholic tendencies have lead her to become somewhat insecure, exacerbated by the natural physical withdrawal she faces as a result of her not seeing her partner in some time (a result of sexual intimacy in Repitonian trolls).

Relationships

Arcjec Voorat

Ellsee is not bothered by Arcjec’s cantankerous attitude or even his depressive apathy, and seems to be genuinely fond of him, to the point that she actually find his insults to be kind of funny. She is even comfortable enough to reach out to Arcjec for advice despite Arcjec insisting that he isn’t the best moral support (he tries to give her advice anyway).

The two appear to share some sort of deeper connection that Arcjec isn’t aware of. Ellsee often tries to introduce herself to him, but regularly fails to do so out of nervousness. It’s worth noting that their ancestors had known each other in life.

Occeus Coliad

Occeus is Ellsee’s matesprit, and they are one of the few trolls in the cast to have been sexually intimate with one another.

Due to Occeus’ workaholic nature and his desperation to preserve his planet, Occeus is unfortunately rather neglectful of Ellsee, leaving her to suffer from symptoms not unlike withdrawal in his absence (as is the case for Repitonian trolls who have been intimate with another and do not see each other for extended periods of time). Occeus regrets this, and realizes that Ellsee deserves better, but will nonetheless prioritize his work over her. This neglect has left Ellsee to feel increasingly insecure in Occeus’ absence.

Ellsee often volunteers the use of her lime blood for Occeus to use in his biological experiments, due to the blood’s unique life-bearing properties. Occeus is the only troll that Ellsee trusts with her blood.

Laivan Ferroo

Laivan and Ellsee are longtime friends, and the two are on amicable terms. Laivan is very upset when people mistreat her and belittle her, and is willing to come to her defense when others put her down or ignore her.

Murrit Turkin

Murrit appears to greatly dislike or distrust Ellsee for reasons unknown, to the point that he actively tries to keep her out of the game.

Tazsia Poemme

Taz and Ellsee do not like each other, and it is implied there may be some black feelings shared between the two. Ellsee is quite annoyed when she has to think or interact with Taz, and Taz appears especially impatient with Ellsee.

Calder Kerian

Like pretty much all the other female trolls, and all the other trolls in general, Ellsee does not like Calder and considers him to be a chauvinistic prick.

Calder is demeaning and talks down to Ellsee at any opportunity, refusing to let her prove her worth.

Trivia

•Ellsee apparently commits arson regularly.

•Despite being the 7th troll introduced, Ellsee is technically the second troll seen in Vast Error, as she was seen shortly after Arcjec’s introduction.

•The life-giving properties of Ellsee’s blood, and her association with mercury reference the archaic belief that mercury had healing properties found in various school of ancient medicine and alchemy. It was once believed that mercury was the key to eternal life.

•Ellsee’s screen name, and name in general, have a lot of foreshadowing to them.

   * The word existere obviously means «a person or thing that exists»

   * The word oracle means «a priest or priestess acting as a medium through whom advice or prophecy was sought from the gods in classical antiquity» basically meaning that an oracle is someone who speaks for a god of some sort

   * So Ellsee’s screen name altogether means «an existing prophet/prophecy»

   * Ellsee’s name also comes from a Hebrew origin, meaning «God is my oath» Ellsee is also a variant form of Elizabeth, meaning «God’s promise»
