Run time error 76 — path not found

This one came back from the grave like Vincent Price-Christofer Lee !
I know about win8 protocols, we have covered that stuff here long ago, but now I ‘m getting this error message again !

In fact the computer here installs-executes ok, but when I shared to another win8 machine it won’t.
I asked if the drive is a «C» and it is (because in my setup file it says «C»).

It’s not a program from earlier version of windows. It’s VB6 developed in win8 and it has in fact installed itself on several machines.

would it be a protected system folder?

i do my best to test code works before i post it, but sometimes am unable to do so for some reason, and usually say so if this is the case.
Note code snippets posted are just that and do not include error handling that is required in real world applications, but avoid On Error Resume Next

dim all variables as required as often i have done so elsewhere in my code but only posted the relevant part

No, impossible.
Just tried my sister’s minicube now that she’s gone out and its free and it worked (download-fresh installation).
It basically goes to a root directory «my software» or if «C:my software» does n’t exist the installer creates it plus some subfolders belonging to the application.
This seemingly compatibility issue seems to occur only with the friend’s computer (who is in another town !).

Is perhaps some «take ownership» action needed ?
Could it be that some very recent windows update is now «policing» the root like program files ?

Something else ?
I had a problem with some antivirus software in the past (panda maybe ?). It was not allowing downloads come what may but I think it was doing other interference as well.
Could it be something like that ?

Is it the installer that gives the error or the program once installed?
Is UAC on or off on the computer it works on?

I asked but I suspect some security setting needs to be relaxed.
Is there a UAC in win8 ? We tried «run as administator» though.

Win 8 UAC is graduated. Mine is at minimum, but turning it to maximum did n’t affect things — only the warnings every time.
Could the problem be due to corrupt registry ?

This sounds like a combination of issues.

First we have the issue of creating a folder in a protected filesystem location (root of the system drive). That probably wasn’t assigned suitable security to make it sort of work despite being a strongly discouraged deployment strategy. Then you probably have more than one user doing things, sometimes elevated and sometimes not — and creating a rats nest of virtualized and non-virtualized copies of data files. Then you have the really hair-raising action of sharing this folder across the LAN. Top it all off with running programs in this network share from another machine instead of properly installing them locally. I shudder to think of the mess created in the registry’s per-user VirtualStores when ActiveX libraries get registered via side-effects of the VB6 runtime or by explicitly running the regsvr32.exe tool-of-last-resort improperly.

If you are just going to do this anyway (which seems very likely) perhaps this might get you by:

• Try to save off any updated data and database files you want to keep.
• Run regsvr32 /u against every ActiveX library involved. First unelevated one time logged on as each user involved, and then elevated using an Administrators account.
• Remove the entire directory and everything in it.
• Clean up any junk your application has created in the %LOCALAPPDATA%VirtualStore folder on each involved PC for each user who has ever run your application. Be careful not to disturb any files there created by other legacy applications.
• Now create your folder under the system drive root again.
• Change this folder’s security to grant «Full control» to the Everyone group.
• Copy your files back there, but be sure you do not copy ActiveX libraries into funky locations like this unless they are only part of your application and not shared.
• Place any shared ActiveX libraries where they belong. This is normally designated within the associated .DEP file for the library, otherwise you’ll need to work it out some other way.
• Register the ActiveX libraries via the 32-bit version of regsvr32.exe from an elevated command prompt.
• Ready to run, hopefully with fewer issues.

Ideally before this undertaking you’d add a manifest to your application that marks it as UAC Aware so that it doesn’t mess around by stumbling into virtualization appcompat.

LUA Buglight 2.3, with support for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 appears to be 4 years old but also the final version. As far as I know it still works though.

Could it be an Anti-virus issue? Try disabling any AV, if present.

При запуске приложения на компьютере с Windows 7 или Windows 10 может появиться ошибка ERROR PROGRAM MAKE NOT FOUND IN PATH с различными кодами. Чаще всего встречается код 76 и 3. Решение данной проблемы существует.

Проанализировав отечественные и зарубежные форумы, мы установили, что ошибка ERROR PATH NOT FOUND чаще всего появляется по причине конфликта антивируса и программного обеспечения. Поэтому в первую очередь рекомендуем на время запуска программы или игры отключить антивирус. Если ошибка исчезла, то нужно добавить софт в исключение защитника или вовсе заменить продукт.

Если папка временных файлов переполнена, то может появиться ошибка ERROR PATH NOT FOUND. Поэтому стоит очистить Windows 10 от временных файлов. Для этого нужно набрать комбинацию клавиш Win+I и в появившемся окне параметров системы перейти в раздел «Система», «Память устройства». В окне справа нужно выбрать «Временные файл» и отметить галочками объекты для удаления.

Если очистка системы от временных файлов не помогла исправить ошибку RUN TIME ERROR 76 PATH NOT FOUND, тогда необходимо проверить целостность системных файлов. Для этого существует ряд команд, которые нужно запустить в командной строке с правами Администратора.

• chkdsk /f C: — сканирование жесткого диска на предмет ошибок;
• sfc /scannow – проверка целостности системных файлов;
• DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RESTOREHEALTH – сканирование и восстановление компонентов Windows.

Программа может не запускаться и выдавать ошибку PATH NOT FOUND ERROR 76 по причине того, что для файла программы задан параметр «Только для чтения».

Эту отметку нужно снять, чтобы программа могла перезаписывать свои файлы (обновление) и работала корректно.

Ошибка ERROR PATH NOT FOUND с кодом 3 связана с компонентами C++. В данном случае стоит открыть программы и компоненты и удалить все Microsoft C++ и установить их заново, скачав с официального сайта Майкрософт.

Если исправить ошибку вышеуказанными способами не удалось, тогда стоит обновить систему или откатить её до более раннего состояния, воспользовавшись точкой восстановления.
