Nah, i tried to contact everyone — amd team told me that problem is within a game, a developers should fix it. Quantic support was unable to solve the issue and told that they will pass it to the development team, but judging from you still having the isse they decided to not give a ♥♥♥♥ about it. This game will probably never work on R9 380.

But with that driver perfectly working all other games. Like Forza horizon 4, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Medium, Witcher 3. I am using that driver since December 2020 and don’t have any problems in Detroit and in other games.

I got all the way through the game until this point, with a few minor bugs, but this one was game breaking.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Validated integrity of game files
Updated to the latest drivers (NVIDIA RTX3090, also tested on a friend’s older GTX1080)
Installed the latest Vulcan runtime
Reinstalled the game completely
Ensured windows updates were up to date
Ensured virus protection had exception for DBH
Downgraded to older graphics drivers
Scanned for viruses & malware
Ran in windows 7 compatibility mode
Ran with administrator privileges
Turned it off and on again

VK means Vulkan, the graphics API Quantic Dream uses on the PC port. The error message is pretty much what it says on the tin (the API for one reason or the other can’t discuss with the GPU), and there’s really nothing much you can do about it besides restarting the game, some say the various things that OP has tried can solve the problem (particularly, running in Win 7 compatibility mode), but results may vary.

As for OP, I had the same problem happen to me once, but after restart it didn’t reoccur since. Wish I could be more of help.

I believe you make it more difficult that was it should be . I leave everything as it come , I play Ultra setting .. and once again I started the game again, been along time . New driver fro Nvidia and no problem . .

For NVIDIA users:
1) Delete Shader Cache from /steam(or SteamLibrary)/steamapps/common/Detroit Become Human/
2) Install this driver https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/167108/
3) Reboot yr PC.
4) Start the game and let her do «Shader compilation process»

At least it worked for me. (I5-7400 [3.00GHz], GTX 1050Ti [4gb], 16GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro)

PS. If this’ll work. DO NOT upgrade your drivers!

This is what I wrote via E-Mail yesterday to the request of QunaticDreams-Support sending Informations about the Stutter-Problem and if the newest nVidia-Driver fixed that:

«Chronological order of events :

— I bought and started playing the game last month with nVidia-Driver 466.27. Game had stutters in every chapter. Graphic Settings on high.

— Changed graphic settings to low -> still stutters in every chapter

— fresh install of nVidia-Driver 446.14. After Shaderpipeline (?) Process —> still stutters on high and low settings !

— went back to nVidia-Driver 466.27 (because I didn´t wanted to stay with an one year old Driver) —> Shaderpipeline (?) Process (again) —> still stutters on high and low settings !

— today I´ve installed nVidia-Driver 471.11 —> Shaderpipeline (?) Process (again . ) —> still stutters on high and low settings !

— My System is installed on a internal 512MB SSD-Drive. The game is installed on a separate internal 2TB SSD-Drive.

— The stutters sometimes don´t appear at the same place / chapter. Example : I´ve played the chapter «Partners» right after Chapter «The Painter».
Conner arrives at the bar, went in, scanned all guests and then started talking to Hank. (no problems to that point). After leaving the bar and arriving at the crime scene, (light) stutters began.

Then I paused the Game, went back to the Main-Menu and restarted the chapter (for other Dialog-options.) Conner arrives at the bar. Right after entering the bar, heavy stutters appeared.

This happens sometimes in every chapter.

— the swap file is activated ( I just mention this because a friend of mine had constant crashes while playing «The Division 2» and he had disabled the swap file.This caused the crashes. After activating it, everything was fine) )

— DxDiag shows among others errors with GameManagerService.exe — DetroitBecomeHuman.exe — Fahrenheit.exe » (end of E-Mail-Informations; I´ve sent them DxDiag file and GraphicsOptions.JSON file)

Today I got an answer from the Support that they will internally check all the informations and keep trying to fix the problems.

When I rolled back to the old Driver 446.14, my nVidia-Control-Panel was deleted and I had to download it from the MS-Store and had to install it manually. This will happen with all Drivers from nVidia with the «dch» in the filename (466.27-desktop-win10-64bit-international-dch-whql). To avoid that, always try to get the Standard-Driver (without «dch»)

I today send big mail to QD there I told everything I know about that issue.

Hello. I played this game 2 years ago and was able to get it working but now I’m playing it on a new laptop I got with a 3070 and I’m getting random crashing with this error message popping up. Has there been a reliable fix developed in the last 2 years? This is pretty embarrassing.

I already tried deleting the shader cache and installed the newest version of C++ Visual Suite. I can’t roll back my drivers based on the recommended ones I have found because the installers say they are incompatible with my version of windows and / or system. I just can’t believe this problem hasn’t been resolved in 2+ years. Relying on ancient drivers is not a «solution.» One day I’ll have a RTX 7080 and 8 year old drives aren’t gonna cut it.

Прикупил себе на днях Detroit Become Human, но при запуске она вылетает с ошибкой vk_error_device_lost. Казалось бы, только на днях поставил себе новую видюху, специально, чтобы поиграть в нее, но все равно мешает какая-то чушь… Поможете — здорово, не поможете — наверное, просто сделаю рефанд и двинусь дальше. К счастью, с другими играми проблем вроде нет.

Ошибка vk_error_device_lost в Detroit Become Human является крайне непростой и неприятной проблемой. Порой ошибка возникает сразу же при запуске, а порой — во время игрового процесса. Чаще всего всё решается полной переустановкой видеодрайверов и, внимание, самой игры.

Воспользуйтесь следующими ссылками, чтобы загрузить актуальный для вашей видеокарты драйвер:

Загрузите утилиту Display Driver Uninstaller (она распространяется бесплатно — скачивайте с любого безопасного места) и полностью удалите текущие видеодрайвера из вашей системы. Затем запустите ранее скачанные драйвера для своей видеокарты и установите их.

and suicidal that is. If you wan’t to enjoy general gaming, you have to go for a
minimum 4GB one. Even that, is starting to become insufficient.
In about one year now, I reckon 6GB will be the minimum.
Especially when the new consoles arrive.
Besides, this game lists minimum 3GB for the gpu.

No dude, get a 6GB gpu. If your budget allows it. You’ll get nowhere with 2-4GB now

Dude, this game is playable with my videocard on 30 fps and I can prove it. I even get 60 fps sometimes on lowest settings. The problem persists even with users who use RTX 2080 TI. Check out the reddit forums. I am not the only one who has such problem.

this is just a horrible PC port and you will constantly get this crash during your playthrough. if this is a dealbreaker for you, you should refund.

I could be wrong, but, now I think of it, VK could well refer to Vulkan. I think I also said in another reply that reinstalling the graphics card driver will fix it. If you do a clean install of the new driver the Vulkan runtime library will be replaced and any bug should be fixed.

The Steam version should have the recent patch in with it and provided you already reinstalled your graphics card driver you shouldn’t have the issue with the Steam version.

Thanks so much. At least if there is a problem and I have not over used my refund policy, I can just refund the game if the error shows up.

There was a very similar bug in Red Dead Redemption 2, reinstalling the graphics card driver fixed that and it’s been fine ever since.

If you reinstall the driver anyway, you shouldn’t have any further problems, so you shouldn’t need to refund the game.

I recently updated my graphics card so I’d installed the latest driver anyway.

Yeah, but, you may not have been replacing the Vulkan runtime library when you did so. Only doing that will fix it.
And I can fix that my reinstalling my graphics card? Is that what you are saying? Because I think I did that once but didn’t help.

You have to do it in safe mode with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller). That completely takes it out. Then, doing a clean install of the new driver deletes old data rather than overwriting it. The more you overwrite, the more the data gets corrupted. Corrupt Vulkan runtime librariies are what has been causing the issue.

Oh, forgot to mention:

NEVER use Geforce Experience, new drivers it gives you could be worse than any you might be replacing! I get my drivers from Guru 3D. They have discussion forums where they are rated and any bugs are mentioned.

445.87 is the minimum driver requirement for DBH and is the one I’m using. Do a custom install and don’t install Geforce Experience.

If anyone else is following this thread, sorry, I meant UNINSTALL not REINSTALL.

Uninstall the existing graphics card driver and install a new one. 445.78 for Nvidia and whatever the equivalent is for Radeon.

You need Vulkan 1.1. It’s possible that whatever your current drivers are, they may not have Vulkan 1.1 so the game is probably crashing when it can’t find it.

I have played the Demo for about 30 mins and so far I have not had any errors. I did what rogb1970 suggested and so far it has made a difference. However, Steam may have fixed this game anyway. Will keep you up to date if I get the error message again.

Steam ( Valve) doesn’t have any control on the repos of publishers/developers. So they didn’t do anything.

Crucial note for everyone who are not so aware of pc gaming concepts:

Always keep your drivers up to date. Do not settle on what Windows installs for you by default. Drivers that Windows ships are extremely old and tend to be broken on new titles.

You might not notice this on playing an old ass game but it will be obvious with new titles.

Nvidia and AMD has their official pages that you can download newest mainline drivers for your gpu.

Intel also has official page to download newest drivers but for games like this Intel igpus are a big meme.

Поменял уже 5 драйверов, самым стабильным оказался 445.87 и проблема исчезла, однако появилась другая ошибка VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST, и какие бы настройки графики я в игре не ставил, игра всё равно зависает, а потом выдаёт эту ошибку, подскажите, что с этим можно сделать?

Ошибка vk_error_device_lost в Detroit Become Human является крайне непростой и неприятной проблемой. Порой ошибка возникает сразу же при запуске, а порой — во время игрового процесса. Чаще всего всё решается полной переустановкой видеодрайверов и, внимание, самой игры.

Воспользуйтесь следующими ссылками, чтобы загрузить актуальный для вашей видеокарты драйвер:

Установив свежие драйвера, деактивируйте динамическое суперразрешение (NVIDIA) или виртуальное сверхвысокое разрешение (AMD). Далее переустановите Detroit Become Human и проверьте, будет ли появляться ошибка vk_error_device_lost на этот раз.
