We have users on Lenovo Carbon laptops gen 9 that are getting an error. Users are on 2106 vmware and cannot access vmware without running in compatibility mode or uninstalling and installing 2111. This just started happening this week for us.

Error displayed is VMWare Horizon View unrecoverable error. (host.12236) Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occurred.

So I am a summer intern at a paper factory and my boss, the controls engineer hasn’t been able to figure out why VMware Workstation on a certain laptop keeps crashing. I tried creating the log file that I see posted on many threads but what I got was a compressed file that didn’t seem to have any of the info I’ve seen. or at least not in the same format. So I’m a complete newby to VMware, and I searched the knowledge base and couldn’t find any direct matches, anyone out there willing to help a newb? Would really appreciate it and it would really help me out as far as my internship goes. TQ ahead of time!!

Just in case I maybe did it right I attached the two support files I created.

I’ve noticed that many people are having the same problem with workstation when their computer/laptop has an AMD/ATI video card. Here is everything I did and I’ve now had workstation up and running for a week with no apparent issues

1. Backup your Virtual Machines somewhere safe and Uninstall Workstation

2. Uninstall the AMD/ATI drivers

3. Reinstall the drivers

4. Reinstall Workstation

5. Follow the below instructions exactly to perform a registry edit

a. Open regedit.exe and backup the registry, if you don’t know how just google it’s incredibly easy to do, and instructions are abundant so I won’t post them here.

b. Open Notepad and enter the following text, make sure it’s exact as editing the registry can be risky, but if you enter the text exactly as it is below, you shouldn’t have any problems as I haven’t had any. I take no liability if you have errors after you perform this regedit so do it at your own risk. Make sure and enter everything below NOTEPAD INSTRUCTIONS. DO NOT WRITE NOTEPAD INSTRUCTIONS IN YOUR NOTEPAD FILE. Just everything below that.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

END NOTEPAD INSTRUCTIONS

c. Then go to FIle and click Save AS, when you get to the location you are going to save the file, click the type box and change it from a text file to all documents, then name the file whatever you want and add .reg at the end. Once you’ve saved the file go to it’s location and double click it to open it, windows will ask you if you want to merge it with the registry click yes, windows will also warn you about editing the registry and if you’re sure you want to try this go ahead and do it. So far it has worked great for me.

VMware Workstation unrecoverable error (vmui)

Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occurred.

This occurred after I had created a snapshot in VMWare Workstation 6.0.1 build-55017 and restarted the vmware session. The vmware session is Windows XP Pro.

Now anytime I attempt to start this VMWare session the above exception error occurs and the session crashes.

I have attached the log file, core file & the «Collect Support Data» file.

Yes — i get this often too. Don’t know why.

Anyway — do you have snapshots ?

Remove any *.vmem files and *nvram files and try again

I have moved the *.vmem and nvram files to a temporary folder, just in case I need them later, however vmware workstation is still giving the same «exception 0xc0000005 access violation» error.

Unfortunately rebooting my pc hasn’t resolved this issue.

One thing I have noticed is that the OldWorkPCConvert-0.vmdk non-working vmware session file is 0 KB and that in my other working VM’s it’s 2 KB in size.

I called VMWare Support and they were able to resolve this issue with an «unofficial hack/fix».

It took many hours, but they got it to work.

From VMWare Support:

Parent virtual disk had been modified and couldn’t access snapshot.

Used dsfok to write out the baseb vmdk and snapshot vmdk to txt file.

Modified the Parent CID of the snapshot vmdk txt file to point to the CID of the base vmdk.

Wrote in the txt file to the snapshot vmdk. Powered on the VM and we are able to access the snapshot vmdk with the most recent data.

Recommend using Converter for cleanup to remove all the snapshot files since snapshot manager does not recognize the snapshot.

I’ve been running Workstation 15.5.7 for a little while now on Win 10 Pro 64, however I’ve found one of my XP VMs won’t startup and displays the error «Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occurred».

I’ve tried disabling the «A ccelerate 3D Graphics» from VM Display settings

I’ve also tried copying the VM to another disk drive and running it from there, but still the same error.

Log file attached.

My other XP VMs work ok, just this one is giving problems.

I am seeing the above error occur whenever I open a specific virtual machine. I have tried numerous snapshots and it occurs in all of them. I looked in the log file and it seems to be attempting to update VMWare tools when the problem occurs.

Host and virtual machine are both running Windows 10 (1909) with all latest updates.

Any help would be appreciated.

«Device Removal» tells us that your host’s graphics device stopped responding while Workstation was using it, which probably means that the host Windows detected a GPU hang and forcibly restarted the GPU, interrupting what Workstation was doing. You may be able to find details in the System section of the host’s Event Viewer application. Workstation can place unusual stresses on a graphics device, partly because that GPU is now handling the graphics for two entire operating systems (essentially), and partly because Workstation uses the GPU in a way quite unlike most other applications.

The failure could be the result of a problem with the host graphics drivers – perhaps check for updated NVIDIA NVS 310 drivers – or with the host graphics hardware itself – it’s always a good idea to check that the GPU has adequate airflow to ensure it is not overheating, too.

The VM name suggests that it is used as an SQL server, in which case you might simply be able to work around the problem by turning off the Accelerate 3D graphics option in the VM’s Display Settings​.

при первом запуске после переустановки он выдал, что не может найти файл C:Users2013AppDataRoamingVMwarepreferences.i ni.
переустановка не помогает.

дамп присылаю.
sfc /scannow вчера делал в безопасном режиме и он написал, что не все файлы восстановлены. cbs.log тоже высылаю. файлы будут в одном архиве.

vmware запускал после sfc и тогда эта ошибка и появилась.

ilushapashuk, у вас не восстановлены файлы:

Код

C:WindowsSysWOW64fde.dll
C:WindowsSysWOW64fdeploy.dll
C:WindowsSysWOW64gptext.dll
C:WindowsSysWOW64gpedit.dll

Придётся восстановить их вручную. Как это сделать читайте здесь.

Ещё в дампе «засветился» следующий файл — C:Program Files (x86)NVDAlibnvdaHelperRemote.dll. Не знаю к чему он относится,но если верить этому,то этот файл относится к Comodo.

Попробуйте куда-нибудь переместить этот файл (либо переименовать его,например: nvdaHelperRemote.dll.old) и проверить наличие проблемы с запуском VMware Player.

файлы восстановил, но ошибка по прежнему появляется.

стороннюю виртуалку использую потому, что раньше с ней столкнулся, а менять её теперь не очень хочу.

Не понял ?! Воощето файл с расширением msu и есть автономный установщик. Это самораспаковывающийся архив.

Отключите, а лучше временно чистенько снесите ваше антивирусное ПО и отключите службу DEP ( в командной строке от имени админ. bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff + перезагрузка ).

ilushapashuk, Пришлите ещё 1 лог:
1. Запустите Process Monitor -> в окне программы нажмите на значок фильтра > далее RESET > APPLY > OK и потом сверните её;
2. Запустите VMware Player и дождитесь появления ошибки;
3. Разверните Process Monitor -> нажмите на значок

4. Идите в меню нажимаете меню File -> Save -> и сохраните лог в CSV-формате;
5. Пришлите лог в архиве.

Чем быстрее вы выполните эти действия,тем меньше будет весить лог.
