hello!
I am using WSUS to publish an update in my clients. I am working now with Firefox v 24. In the machines with Windows XP and Windows 7 the update is working correctly. The problem is with the machines with W8.

I see two errors in your log file.
First one :CheckIfDirExists returned error 0x80070002
0x80070002 error can be fixed following

Here is what Lawrence Garvin (Solarwind expert and WSUS specialist) posted a few years ago :
This is a =WUA= issue, if not just a general client networking issue, but
certainly not a WSUS issue, and it’s unfortunate that the message is being
forwarded to the WSUS group rather than being handled as the
agent/networking issue that it is.I found several instances of the error code 0x80070032 via a Google search,
but none related to the WUA (except clones of this thread on other webforums
sites). What I did notice, though, was a general theme running through all
of the threads, and that was that the issue related to either service issues
(services disabled/not started) or winsock issues.Taking from one thread at

which actually has a WUA demonstrating this issue (though the thread is
about other service startup issues), the resolution was to reset winsock.Hope this will help.

I have set up a virtual network with two virtual machines. The first VM is Server 2008 R2 and is set up as a domain controller. The second VM is Server 2012 R2, and has been joined to the domain. The DC (TestVM1) is also set up as a DNS server.
From TestVM2 (Server 2012 R2), I am able to log in using a domain login, and I am able to browse to a public website.
I was able to run Windows Updates from TestVM1, but when I attempt to run Windows Updates from TestVM2, it fails.
The Windows Update client shows «Error(s) found:» and «Code 8024402F».

Our company runs SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 on a Windows 2008 R2 Server. One component we use is Software Updates which we deploy to ~1000 workstations.
Recently, we purchased a license for PatchMyPC which enabled us to publish 3rd party updates from SCUP 2011 into SCCM. When importing the catalog, I not only imported the PatchMyPC updates, but the free Dell and Adobe ones, too. I was asked to go ahead and publish the metadata for all updates from all 3 catalogs and did so. Soon afterwards is when the issues started.
When a client currently tries to run a software update scan, it fails. Below are the errors which the logs reflect:
WUAHandler.log
- OnSearchComplete — Failed to end search job. Error = 0x8024000f.
- Scan failed with error = 0x8024000f. (Which translates to «Circular update relationships were detected in the metadata.»)
WindowsUpdate.log
- WARNING: CSerializationHelper:: InitSerialize failed : 0x80070002
- WARNING: Failed to get Wu Exemption info from NLM, assuming not exempt, error = 0x80070032
When the issue first occurred, WindowsUpdate.log also listed many other errors which included update GUIDs. I found out that the issue was caused by corrupt Dell updates which were published and per instructions found, I expired each of the updates in SCUP then performed a full re-sync. I was able to verify in the console that the corrupt updates (which I placed in a different folder) were marked as Expired. This resolved the issue to where the GUIDs no longer appear in the log files, but I still have what’s listed above left. This was done yesterday so know that policy has refreshed since
What I’ve Tried
- Expiring the 16 unique Dell updates mentioned above and resyncing
- Verified that I can visit http://primaryserver:8530 from client-get prompted for credentials
- Re-importing SCUP catalogs then re-expiring updates
- Searched for updates which superseded themselves — Found this post where the same issue was caused by this occurring. I manually compared many of the update, but ran the SQL queries (via SQL Studio connected to Windows Internal DB) and got no results
- Been digging through logs!
I’ve attached both log files mentioned above to this post. Due to their size, I zipped both of them up into a single file.

I have just installed SCCM 2012 on VM running Server 2012.

I have a server that is not getting any patches or antivirus updates. All other servers work fine. Only error I see is the following:
failed to get targeted update, error = 0x87d00215.
I already recreated the software distribution folder and reinstalled the SCCM client. Any ideas on what else to check or try? TIA

Actually not that I see. I have the following errors in the windows update log:

On two distribution points which have been working fine for six months I am getting now an error: 0x87d00215

Have you distributed the client package to a distribution point, and does the machine fall into a boundary/boundary group associated with the distribution point?
Yes the Client package has already been upgraded automatically on 22,000+ machines.
Yes the machines are Distribution Points Servers used for the past six months they are in the boundaries.

Good Catch the boundary group was missing, adding one it works and the client is properly upgraded now

Updates Deployment 0x87d00215 error
I am trying to install Updates on my machines, but no luck.
I created a new Update for Win 10 machines: created a SW Update Group, created a new package, downloaded this updates to this new package and distribute de package to my Distribution Point.
My DP status show success to package deployment.
Now I deploy the SW Update Group to my desktop Collections with Win 10.
I update my client using actions in SCCM Client.
But, my Software Center is show empty for Updates and my client UpdatesDeployment.log is showing this:
More info from the desktop machine:
- Local WSUS policy in pointing to my SUP, it is right
- My SCCM Client is green and inventory is working fine
More info from my DP:
- Package content is there, I validade that
- Other packages, lipe APP packages are there too
- IIS is working fine
Please, any ideias what is happening?

Thanks for your posting on Q&A.
What is the version of your MECM? How many clients in the collection encountered this issue? What are the KB numbers of the software updates you are tried to deploy? Please make sure the updates are required for the clients before moving on.
Please to try to review the scanagent.log and PolicyEvaluator.log on the client to get more error information.

Thanks for the sharing for the logs. I don’t see any obvious errors or issues. There is an error in updatesdeployment log, but more on that later. Do you have maintenance windows configured by any chance? Can you check servicewindow log?
Updates will not download and install unless there is a service window available. You didn’t confirm if a service window is available or not.
Are you sure this is accurate 100% of the time? If the deployment was configured with ‘User Experience’ menu option ‘Deadline Behavior’ with a value of ‘Software updates installation’, would this skip evaluating maintenance windows altogether?
Is the update applicable? Maybe look under wuahandler, scanagent logs as well.

What does the following warning mean? Seems to occur throughout my windowsupdate.log on WS2012 client

Same problem with WSUS on Windows 2012 Servers, but the fix is not for this OS Version

Try «wsusutil reset» command or manually reconfigure wsus. This solution help me.

Hey there,
I am encountering a similar issue. The WSUS 4.0 server is running on W2K12 and the server on which the update fails is also a W2K12. KB2734608 is not applicable on the WSUS server.
The issue describes as follows: 45 important updates are shown on the client. When I click «Install updates» it starts with «preparing to install» and after like 2 seconds gets back to the page where I can click on «Install updates».
What I did so far: resetting the connection to the WSUS server didn’t help, nor did:
Net stop wuauserv
rd /s %windir%softwaredistribution
Net start wuauserv»
Actually, I am pretty clueless what to do as I cannot install the updates. :/
Windows Update log throws this:

Hey there,
I am encountering a similar issue. The WSUS 4.0 server is running on W2K12 and the server on which the update fails is also a W2K12. KB2734608 is not applicable on the WSUS server.
The Role of NLM:

I strongly believe that this Warning: about NLM, is actually perfectly normal and expected in almost all modern WUAgent situations, and not at all relevant to your problems with error = 0x8024000C
error = 0x8024000C, means «no operation was required»
So, check for other problems.

In my case it happens only on servers which are managed not by WSUS, but with something else (SCCM, SCVMM). All other computers/server update status on WSUS.

Only my 2012 servers managed by SCCM are not updating. All other OS’s are fine.

yes we did. For us it turned out to be a Antivirus Definition file in the Baselines was older and there was a more current file available. We had to go into the Baselines of our WSUS Server and remove all the older definition file updates and
just made sure the 1 most current was there. Then re-scan for Compliance in SCVMM.
