I am in desperate need of some help. I am running into issues with windows updates on server 2008.
We have a proxy setup on our instagate gateway device and authentication is needed for web access.
I am running server 2008 64-bit edition, have clusering service installed on it.
I am usually getting error message 80072EFD, if I go through the website or control panel.
I have checked different forums online and have checked time, updated root certificate,
tried with firewall off. I need to get virtual environment setup on two of the same servers and
I don’t want o proceed without having the systems updated.
ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
From your post, I understand that error code 80072EFD was received when trying to update a Windows Server 2008 x64. You have performed the following
troubleshooting steps, however, the issue remains:1. Clean Boot.
2. Test with different users.
3. Disable Windows Firewall.
4. Check GPO settings. If I am off base, feel free to let me know.
I do appreciated the pre-troubleshooting steps you have performed. Based on my experience, error code 80072EFD usually means that a program running on your computer is preventing Windows Update Services (SVCHOST) from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, anti-spyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs, and proxy servers.
To correct the problem, you might need to add the Windows Update website addresses to the blocking program’s exceptions or «allow» list or allow Windows
Update Service to connect to the Internet through port 80 and port 443.To add the Windows Update websites to a firewall exceptions list. Windows Firewall ships with this version of Windows and should already include these sites in the exceptions list. If you use a different firewall, refer to the software publisher’s help to see how to add these websites to your firewall exceptions list:

Are the integration services up to date? What hypervisor are you using?

Scan for malware. As a server, it shouldn’t be used to browse the web, but stranger things have happened. I’ve seen it happen before. Make sure the WSUS service has not been disabled in services.

Do you have a WSUS server or are you pulling updates directly from the internet?
Can you ping 8.8.8.8 from that server?
Can you ping www.microsoft.com Opens a new window from it?

Dave9385 you Nailed it. We were in the process of building the 2 Win2008 DC’s when our old physical 2003 DC failed. In our rush to get back up and running, we never implemented the WSUS. This DC was synced with the old 2k3 DC when it was a member server and thus had the reg settings for the old WSUS ( which was a share on the old win2003 DC).
